Was Obaseki’s Appointment Of Godwins As Edo’s New Deputy Governor A Dangerous Mistake?

In the whirlwind of an election year, any government with a hint of savvy knows it’s time to kick things into high gear. Every move should be strategic, keeping a keen eye on how it plays with the voting crowd.

Well, today wasn’t short on drama! Godwin Obaseki hit the stage with a lightning bolt, giving Philip Shaibu the ol’ “you’re out” treatment as his deputy. But fear not, folks! In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, Engr. Omobayo Marvellous Godwins swooped in as the new deputy governor faster than you can say “impeachment.”..CONTINUE READING.

Now, let’s talk about Engr. Omobayo – he hails from Ibillo in Akoko Edo LGA up in Edo North, he’s alleged to be a card-carrying member of the LP. And get this: he even had a go at the reps seat for Akoko Edo in the last election, just a year back. Talk about ambition, huh? Oh, and did I mention he’s a sprightly 38 years young?

So, get ready for a rollercoaster ride! Edo politics is in full swing, and we’re just getting warmed up.

Obaseki has chosen a relatively unknown opposition member as his Deputy, shaking things up against the traditional APC members who jumped ship with him to the PDP. And let’s not forget about the Legacy PDP members led by Chief Dan Orbih – they might feel a bit left out..

What does this all mean? Well, Edo North, the prized battleground in the upcoming elections, is where the action will be. But Obaseki’s pick isn’t exactly a hometown hero – his last electoral performance in the region wasn’t exactly stellar.

So, while Obaseki’s former deputy, Philip Shaibu, may have had his own troubles winning over his own unit and ward in recent elections due to his fallout with political powerhouse Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, who still pulls the strings in the region, it’s clear that delivering a win for the PDP won’t be a walk in the park.

So, did Obaseki make the right call? We want to hear from you! Share your thoughts in the comments below. Also, was it a wise move to have a falling out with Philip right before a gubernatorial election? Or was it a case of taking down your enemy while you still can? Your opinions matter – let’s hear them!
