We Bought You A Car!” – Wale Adenuga Claps Back At Papa Ajasco

Veteran filmmaker and Chief Executive Officer of Wale Adenuga Productions, Wale Adenuga, has refuted claims made by veteran Nollywood actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, famously known as Papa Ajasco. Ayoyinka had recently alleged financial struggles despite his long-standing role in the popular television series Papa Ajasco and Company and claimed he was restricted from using the brand without Adenuga’s consent.

In a statement on Wednesday, Adenuga clarified that Ayoyinka has never been barred from taking on advertising or other professional opportunities. He noted that the actor is only required to seek formal approval when using the Papa Ajasco brand, in accordance with standard brand protection policies. Adenuga described Ayoyinka as a versatile performer who closely embodies the original Papa Ajasco character created in 1976 and emphasized that there has been no serious conflict between them.

Adenuga highlighted Ayoyinka’s distinguished career as a civil servant with the Lagos State Government, where he served for over three decades and was part of the state’s cultural troupe. He explained that any appearance on location for the series previously required coordination with Ayoyinka’s office.

Addressing allegations of neglect, Adenuga asserted that the production company has supported the actor over the years, providing him with a car and other benefits, including access to vehicles like a Mercedes-Benz, and confirmed that Ayoyinka owns property in Ogun State. He stressed that limitations on the personal use of the “Papa Ajasco” brand are necessary to protect its reputation but do not prevent actors from pursuing independent projects.

Questioning Ayoyinka’s claims of financial hardship, Adenuga asked why the actor would claim to be broke after decades of service and investments, including his gratuities. He noted that other cast members, such as Pa James, continue to take on independent roles outside the show and that actors typically spend only about six weeks per year on set, leaving them time for additional professional pursuits.
