The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has encouraged the soldiers of the Nigerian Army to maintain their morale and continue defending Nigeria.
He urged them not to let their spirits waver and to actively work towards reclaiming areas currently occupied by terrorists and bandits in various parts of the country.
Lagbaja made these remarks on Tuesday during his visit to troops in Niger State, in response to an insurgent ambush on troops in the Zungeru general area of the state.

During the attack, some brave soldiers of the Nigerian Army lost their lives. Additionally, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter involved in casualty evacuation crashed on Monday in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
During his visit to the Forward Operating Base Erena in the Shiroro area, Lagbaja received a briefing on the prevailing security situation from Major General Bamidele Alabi, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division.
Addressing the troops following the briefing, the COAS urged them to unite and show increased determination in defeating the nation’s adversaries and restoring stability in troubled regions.
Lagbaja emphasized that the fight against insurgents and bandits is a just and essential cause in safeguarding the nation and its citizens. He underscored the importance of protecting lives and the nation as a noble service.
He stated, “You are engaged in the noble profession of arms and should not let your morale diminish. We must overcome those who oppose our people and regain control of every part of our land where they have taken refuge.”
Lagbaja assured the troops that he is committed to providing the best possible welfare for Nigerian Army personnel and their families, which aligns with the central tenets of his Command Philosophy. He directed the prompt reinforcement of the troops with additional combat support to enhance their operational efficiency.
