The Nigerian Army has clarified that the primary factor affecting the regular promotion of a commissioned officer is a lack of attention to their career development and subpar performance in training and courses.

Major-Gen. Folusho Oyinlola, the head of the Military Secretary Department of the Nigerian Army, made this statement during a Career Planning Sensitization Lecture for officers of the 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He emphasized that the system is structured to facilitate the timely promotion of commissioned officers. However, negligence and underperformance in early career stages can have a detrimental effect on their advancement as they progress in rank.

Oyinlola, who delivered the lecture on this subject, highlighted the role of the military secretary in overseeing the career training of officers. He stressed the importance of ensuring that commissioned personnel receive promotions in a timely manner.

He expressed regret that many officers progress through their careers without a clear understanding of how to achieve success in the military. He emphasized that the training provided aims to equip young officers with the knowledge and skills needed for success.

Oyinlola further pointed out that inadequate performance not only hinders promotion but also affects postings and assignments. He urged newly commissioned officers to approach their careers with a sense of seriousness and dedication.
