Wike Blasts Slow Progress At Abuja Court Of Appeal Project, Calls For Urgent Action
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed concern over the slow progress of the new Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Jabi District. His comments came on Monday following an inspection of the Appeal Court site and the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District.
Wike questioned whether the contractor would meet the original September 2025 deadline, which was intended to coincide with the Court of Appeal’s legal year celebrations. “I’m afraid; I’m really not too satisfied. I don’t think that the contractor will meet up,” he told journalists after the site visit.
The minister disclosed that he has called for an urgent meeting with the contractor to explore ways to accelerate the project, emphasizing that the facility remains a priority for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “I do know that it will not exceed this year. I have sent them to call the contractor. Let’s put our heads together because it’s one project that is dear to Mr. President,” Wike stated.
While expressing concerns over the Court of Appeal complex, Wike commended the progress of the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe, where 40 five-bedroom duplexes are being constructed for Justices of the Federal High Court, the FCT High Court, and the Court of Appeal. “We are impressed with the speed of work, and the schedule is for handover by January 2026 with complete furnishing. I believe, given the current pace, they may be able to deliver ahead of schedule,” he noted.
Wike highlighted that the President’s initiative to provide secure housing for judges is part of a broader effort to strengthen judicial independence, allowing judges to focus fully on their duties.
