Wike Reveals Those In PDP Who Permitted Him To Be Tinubu’s Minister

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, revealed that he sought the approval of several leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before accepting his nomination as a minister by President Bola Tinubu.

Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, was officially sworn in as the FCT minister alongside other ministers in the Tinubu administration on Monday.

However, his appointment triggered public criticism due to his membership in the opposition PDP and his earlier statement expressing reluctance to take on a ministerial role after his governorship term.

Addressing these concerns during his inaugural press conference as the FCT Minister, Wike explained that he reached out to key PDP figures before making his decision.

He wrote letters to the acting national chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun, the current governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and the minority leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives, seeking their approval to accept the ministerial offer.

Wike disclosed that all the PDP leaders he contacted gave him their blessing to proceed with the ministerial appointment. He challenged his critics by stating that he does not hold animosity toward anyone and emphasized the importance of truthfulness.

The minister clarified that the process of submitting names for potential ministerial appointments involved participation from PDP governors across various states, including himself. He highlighted that every PDP governor submitted names for consideration.

To address skepticism about his appointment, Wike mentioned that he had documented evidence of the permissions granted by various party leaders. He compared those who questioned his appointment to “reggae dancers” who miss out on opportunities due to arrogance and impunity.

Wike stated, “I have my evidence documented. Forget these reggae dancers. I call them reggae dancers because when you’ve lost your opportunity, you’ve lost your opportunity because of arrogance and impunity.”
