Abdullahi Adamu Arrested, Details Emerge
Abdullahi Adamu, a motorcycle rider, has revealed that he entered the kidnapping trade after his father was murdered by armed robbers.
Adamu was among 30 individuals, including nine suspected kidnappers, who were presented to the public by the Ondo state security unit known as Amotekun in the state capital, Akure.
In an interview, Adamu explained, “I chose to become a kidnapper because of my circumstances. I lost my father due to an armed robbery incident years ago. Following his death, life became incredibly difficult for my siblings and me. Our mother struggled to provide for us, and surviving became an immense challenge. Thus, I made the decision to join the kidnapping trade.”
Adamu, who originates from Katsina state, admitted that his involvement in the criminal operation was his first before he was apprehended by Amotekun personnel.
Another victim, Bello, a farmer, recounted his harrowing experience as an abductee. He revealed that he was at his home in Akunnu-Akoko, observing the 7:00 pm Muslim prayer, when a group of around six armed men suddenly arrived. They used force to make him follow them into the forest. Bello was held captive and fed a meager amount of garri flakes without water for five days. His captors contacted his family, demanding a ransom for his release.
Amotekun Corps successfully rescued Bello from his captors when they attempted to collect the ransom. The state commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed that the suspects were caught while attempting to retrieve the ransom.
Undercover operatives posed as family members of the victim, leading to the arrest of three of the suspects during the ransom exchange. Subsequently, these three individuals provided information that led to the arrest of an additional six suspects. Adeleye mentioned that the arrested individuals will be taken to court for legal proceedings.
