In an open letter addressed to Tinubu, the group implored the president to intervene swiftly to ensure the timely burial of the deceased.

Engineer Adekunle Ogundana, the Vice President of YWC, signed the open letter, emphasizing the urgency of the matter in a bid to expedite the burial process.

Akinkunmi, a native of Abeokuta in Ogun State who resided in Ibadan, Oyo State, passed away on August 21, 2023, with his remains currently held in a morgue in Ibadan.

Having won a national flag design competition in 1958, Akinkunmi’s design was chosen to represent Nigeria as it prepared for independence from colonial rule.

Despite assurances from government officials, including a visit from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammad Idris, the burial of Akinkunmi has been repeatedly postponed, much to the distress of his family.

In response to the prolonged delay, the YWC called upon Tinubu to personally investigate the matter and expedite the burial process, ensuring that the deceased is laid to rest with the dignity and respect he deserves.

The YWC underscored the significance of Akinkunmi’s contribution to Nigeria’s history and urged Tinubu to take decisive action to honor his legacy and provide closure to his bereaved family.

The letter also highlighted the Senate’s call for the immortalization of Akinkunmi and emphasized the need for the government to fulfill its obligations to the late icon and his family.
