You’ve Crushed Terror Supply Chain — Ndume Praises Tinubu
According to Ireporter Online, former Senate leader, Ali Ndume, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving ₦68 billion as operational support for the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP), describing the intervention as a major step toward improving security and economic stability in Borno State.
Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, said the federal government’s decision reflects responsiveness to the long-standing concerns of residents who have endured persistent electricity shortages. He noted that the development would significantly reduce insecurity by disrupting what he described as the recruitment pathways for insurgents, adding that improved electricity supply would strengthen both economic activities and community resilience.
The lawmaker further stated that restoring stable power would add substantial value to the informal sector, which serves as a key driver of livelihoods in the region. According to him, uninterrupted electricity would also complement military operations against insurgents, who he described as thriving in environments with poor visibility, particularly at night.
Ndume, in his remarks, expressed appreciation on behalf of Borno stakeholders, including Governor Babagana Zulum, noting that the intervention would stimulate small and medium-scale enterprises and revive local economic activities.
He urged security agencies, government institutions, and residents to work together to protect power infrastructure from vandalism and destruction, warning that such acts could undermine the gains of the intervention. He stressed that safeguarding the facilities was essential for sustaining the benefits of improved electricity supply, which he said would enhance livelihoods and further support security efforts in the state.
