A statement released in Gusau on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, highlighted the success of recent military operations under Operation Fansar Yamma, which effectively disrupted bandit activities in the region.

The statement expressed regret over civilian casualties that occurred during an airstrike at Tungar Kara, where members of the local vigilance group were mistakenly identified as fleeing bandits from Gidan Makera in the Boko district of Zurmi.

“We have received multiple reports of successful airstrikes that have significantly reduced the operational capacity of the bandits. The Nigerian Air Force has shown unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property,” the statement read.

Governor Lawal assured residents of the state’s commitment to maintaining recent security improvements through ongoing collaboration with federal security agencies.

He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to intelligence sharing, logistical support, and strengthening community engagement to restore peace and stability.

“While these efforts have resulted in significant progress, we deeply mourn the loss of brave members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilance groups who sacrificed their lives in Tungar Kara,” the statement continued.

The government extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, offering necessary support and assistance.

Lawal urged citizens to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate fully with security forces to ensure lasting peace.
