Zeekr 9X Electric SUV Launches In Nigeria, Bringing Luxury To The Roads

Nigeria’s luxury automobile sector reached a significant milestone as BBA Motors officially unveiled the Zeekr 9X electric SUV in Lagos, marking the model’s first entry into the African market. According to industry reports, the launch event at the company’s showroom also featured the delivery of the first Zeekr 9X in Nigeria to music icon D’banj, signalling the arrival of high-end electric vehicles in the country’s premium mobility segment.

BBA Motors stated that the launch positions Nigeria as a strategic gateway for advanced electric vehicles in West Africa while fostering stronger automotive trade links between Africa and Asia. Founder Rebecca Jia described the unveiling as a key step in the company’s expansion strategy. “In the Nigerian market, our core mission is to bring Chinese automotive innovation and localised services to users. The debut and first delivery of Zeekr 9X is a vital move for us to enter the new-energy vehicle segment and grow our footprint,” she said.

Jia added that BBA Motors plans to offer a range of vehicles, from daily commuters to luxury models, while supporting fleet procurement, leasing, and maintenance services for corporate organisations and ride-hailing platforms.

The Zeekr brand, part of China’s Geely Holding Group, is recognised globally for its cutting-edge battery technology and intelligent driving systems. Product specialists highlighted that the Zeekr 9X has been optimised for African conditions, taking into account Nigeria’s road infrastructure and high-temperature climate.

The all-electric SUV boasts a high-capacity lithium battery delivering up to 560 kilometres per charge, with a combined range of approximately 1,250 kilometres, and ultra-fast charging capable of replenishing the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in around 28 minutes. The dual-motor intelligent all-wheel-drive system generates 310 kW of power and 680 Nm of torque, allowing acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in just over four seconds. Engineers noted that the SUV’s reinforced chassis and higher ground clearance make it suitable for both urban roads and rough terrain prevalent in Nigeria.

Inside, the Zeekr 9X features premium interior finishes, including Nappa leather seats, panoramic digital displays, and an AI-powered intelligent cockpit. It also includes advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist, lane centring, and 360-degree panoramic imaging.

During the ceremony, Jia presented the first unit to D’banj, symbolising BBA Motors’ confidence in the Nigerian market. The musician cited the vehicle’s technology and after-sales support as key factors in his choice. Industry experts suggest the launch could mark the early expansion of premium electric vehicles in Nigeria, coinciding with rising interest in sustainable mobility within the country’s high-end automotive sector.

BBA Motors confirmed that the Lagos showroom would function as a hub for sales, after-sales service, fleet solutions, and ride-hailing partnerships, as the company scales its service network nationwide and plans to introduce additional electric and hybrid vehicles to the African market.
