Engine failure: Reps To Probe Two Airlines Over Accidents Involving Emir Ado Bayero
The House of Representatives has ordered its committee on Aviation to investigate Maxi Air and Aero Contractors over recent accidents involving their planes.
According to a motion moved by Umar Bala from Kano State, a Max Air flight carrying 140 passengers including the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero had an engine failure on Tuesday.
He explained that Aero Contractors flight also suffered a bird strike that almost led to a crash involving 90 passengers.
The lawmaker said that “despite the echoing of a large strange sound at the point of take-off by the Max aircraft the pilot and his crew dismissed any feeling of insecurity and took off.
“In view of several issues of conflict between birds and aircrafts causing accidents and deaths, best practices ensure the use of Bird Strike Avoidance Radars to avoid such unfortunate situations
“Bird strikes are increasingly becoming recurring incidents in our airports with reports suggesting more of these cases prevalent at the Aminu Kano International Airport.”
The lawmakers mandated the committee to investigate allegations of negligence against the two airlines.
