The Nigerian Army has initiated an inquiry into the reported killing of a driver named Lawal in Lagos. Lawal was allegedly murdered by individuals wearing military attire on August 17, 2023.
In a statement released on Sunday by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, the Army disclosed that while the available information regarding the incident is limited, it is important to make the occurrence public and to outline the steps being taken to identify the individuals allegedly involved, who are believed to be soldiers.
The goal is to ensure justice is served if they are indeed serving soldiers.
The statement explained that the Division is collaborating with the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Police to investigate the identities of the suspected individuals and to uncover the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event. The Army emphasized that if the suspects are confirmed to be active-duty soldiers, they will be subjected to the full extent of both military and civilian laws.
