Sleepless Nights For Abure, Obi, ‘Obidients’ As Appeal Court Recognises Apapa As National Chairman Of Labour Party, Gives Fresh Order To INEC
The Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State, made a significant ruling on Thursday, ousting Julius Abure and officially recognizing Lamido Apapa as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
Furthermore, the court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly acknowledge and publish the names of all gubernatorial candidates endorsed by the National Working Committee led by Apapa. This directive pertains to the states of Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi.
The court also invalidated the gubernatorial candidature of Senator Athan Achonu of Imo State, as well as others associated with the faction led by Abure.

In April, Apapa asserted that his suspension from the party lacked validity, emphasizing that he retained his position as the “legitimate acting chairman.”
Interestingly, on August 14, a separate Court of Appeal session in Benin City, Edo State, upheld Abure’s position as the National Chairman of the Labour Party. This information was communicated through a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh.
Previously, on May 26, a State High Court in Edo dismissed the suspension notice against Abure issued by certain party members at the ward level. The presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Aihamoje, dismissed the case on the grounds of lacking merit.
