BREAKING: APC Takes Fresh Action Affecting Sylva After His Disqualification From Bayelsa Governorship Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the kick-off of its Bayelsa Governorship Campaign, initially slated for Saturday, October 14 in Yenagoa.

This was announced by Felix Morka, the party’s national publicity secretary, in a statement released on Friday in Abuja. The party will inform the public of a new date in due course.

It’s worth noting that an Abuja High Court recently disqualified Timipre Sylva, the APC candidate, from participating in the November 11 governorship race. Justice Donatus Okorowo, in his ruling, stated that Mr. Sylva had been sworn in twice and governed Bayelsa for five years as governor.

He emphasized that allowing Sylva to contest again would breach the provisions of the 1999 constitution. Specifically, Sylva would exceed the constitutionally permitted eight years in office as governor if he were to win.

The APC, however, maintains that Mr. Sylva remains its gubernatorial candidate for the election.

“We wish to state categorically that Sylva is, and remains our candidate for the November 11 election.

“Our party and its candidate have duly instructed the legal team to appeal the decision of the Federal High Court diligently and expeditiously,” the APC spokesman had said while reacting to the judgment.
