South East Governors Meet, Vow To Tackle Insecurity

The South East Governors’ Forum convened on Monday to discuss how to address the region’s growing security problems.

This comes after a series of attacks in which three people have died and numerous more have been injured in several states across the area, with police stations and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) being the most common targets.

The leaders discussed strategies to combat security concerns in the region and protect people’s lives during a virtual conference of governors.

They vowed to go to any length to track down and bring to justice all those involved in the armed banditry that is currently ravaging the South East.

The governors also expressed their condolences to the families of all those who have died as a result of the region’s deadly clashes.

They, on the other hand, urged the public to remain calm and enable the security agencies to complete their investigations.

The governors denounced the assassination of Ahmed Gulak, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by gunmen on his way to the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State’s capital, on Sunday.

They resolved to support Imo State Governor Hope Uzodima and security agencies in their efforts to find the perpetrators of the killing.

The leaders also expressed their condolences to Gulak’s immediate family, as well as the government and people of Adamawa State, for the tragic incident.

They stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s instructions to security services to apprehend the offenders will further strengthen the bonds of solidarity and trust between the people of the South East and those in the north.

The governors praised their northern counterparts for their patience in the face of the murders and promised that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
