Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the state police, disclosed that the joint operation resulted in the arrest of one suspect, while others managed to escape with gunshot injuries following an extended exchange of gunfire with the militants.

According to a statement, the operation was initiated in response to kidnapping incidents involving Mr. Sabinus Ugwuebu, a Road Safety Officer, and HRH Eze Ohiri, former Eze Imo.

The police, in close collaboration with the military, conducted the operation at the suspected terrorist camp in Ihite Owerri during the early hours of 8th January 2023.

The statement conveyed, “A concerted investigative effort is in progress to apprehend the fleeing suspects and potentially rescue the kidnapped victims. They will face legal proceedings upon the completion of the investigation.”

Imo State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, emphasized the commitment of the Command to working in tandem with the Military and other pertinent security agencies to eradicate all forms of crime and criminal activities within the state.
