The IGP has issued a ban on security aides to VIPs from polling booths and imposed restrictions on vehicular movement in 26 states where the elections are set to take place.
The restriction on vehicle movements is scheduled from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. on election day, aiming to ensure a secure and interference-free electoral process. Essential services such as INEC officials, accredited media, and emergency responders are exempted from this restriction.
Additionally, the IGP has prohibited state-owned security outfits from managing election security, emphasizing the commitment to a fair and secure electoral process. The directive underscores the need to prevent interference and maintain the integrity of the voting process.
The statement from the police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, warns of legal consequences for any disruptions and encourages citizens to report any suspicious activities to the designated authorities.
Meanwhile, in Lagos State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken delivery of sensitive materials for the Surulere Federal Constituency I by-election, further indicating the commission’s readiness for the upcoming election.
