Eyewitnesses recounted the heart-wrenching scene where Shafiu’s dedication to safeguarding the electoral integrity cost him his life. The brutality of the attack led to widespread protests by impassioned youths in the area, culminating in a road blockade on the Kaduna/Zaria highway. The resulting gridlock left motorists stranded until the intervention of the military was sought to restore order.
Confirming the incident, ASP Mansir Hassan, spokesperson of the State Police Command, revealed that the suspected thugs, having snatched election materials at the Tsohon Garin Rigachikun polling unit, callously shot Shafiu in the leg.
