In a significant development, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is seen vacating the apex bank’s prestigious quarters in Lagos, signaling a shift in his circumstances.

Accompanied by a team led by the CBN Special Investigator, Jim Obazee, Emefiele began the process of moving his personal belongings from the illustrious residence located on Glover Road, Ikoyi.

This move comes amidst the backdrop of 14 fresh charges filed against Emefiele by the Federal Government, prompted by a damning report submitted by the CBN special investigator.

The charges levelled against Emefiele include allegations of criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to conduct forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit a felony, stemming from amendments made during his tenure.

Emefiele’s tenure as CBN Governor came to an abrupt end in June 2023, following his removal from office by President Bola Tinubu, amidst mounting concerns over financial mismanagement and irregularities.

Moreover, the Senate’s resolution to probe the utilization of the N30 trillion Ways and Means loans obtained from the CBN during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari has intensified scrutiny on Emefiele’s stewardship.

The Senate’s inquiry highlights concerns over the reckless spending of funds acquired during Emefiele’s tenure, with allegations pointing to its contribution to the nation’s current food and security crises.
