Sultan Proclaims Monday As Start Of Fasting for Ramadan 1445 AH

 

 

 

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has officially declared Monday, March 11, as the commencement of Ramadan 1445 AH in Nigeria.

He confirmed that the new moon had been sighted in various parts of the country, with reports received from Muslim leaders and organizations nationwide.

“Following thorough verification and authentication by the National Moon Sighting Committee and state committees, and after routine scrutiny, I hereby declare the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan, marking the end of Sha’aban 1445 AH.

“In accordance with Islamic law, Muslims are directed to begin fasting on Monday accordingly,” he stated.

The sultan urged Muslim faithful to dedicate themselves wholly to the worship of Allah throughout the Holy Month, encouraging them to pray for the progress, peace, and prosperity of the nation.

He also appealed to affluent individuals to support the less privileged and emphasized the importance of enhanced religious tolerance and unity in Nigeria.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, symbolizes a month-long period of fasting, one of the fundamental pillars of Islam.
