Nigeria Governors Meet In Abuja

Governors from across Nigeria’s 36 states on Wednesday converged in Abuja for a meeting under the platform of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), with security and other national issues expected to feature prominently in their discussions.

The meeting was chaired by the NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, with several governors and deputy governors in attendance.

Among the governors present were Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Deputy governors from Katsina, Yobe, Niger and Oyo states also attended the meeting on behalf of their respective governors.

According to IREPORTER ONLINE, the official agenda of the meeting had not been released as of the time of filing the report. However, the prevailing security challenges confronting the country are expected to be among the issues considered by the governors.

The meeting comes amid growing concerns over kidnapping, banditry and terrorism in different parts of the country, with state governments facing increasing pressure to strengthen security measures and protect residents.

Meanwhile, Nigerian journalist Rufai Oseni has argued that Nigeria is not yet prepared to completely tackle the insecurity crisis affecting the country.

Speaking during Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Wednesday, Oseni attributed the persistence of insecurity to what he described as alleged complicity within sections of the government and elite class.

He referenced the recent attack in Woro, Kwara State, where residents reportedly alerted security authorities to a threat before bandits allegedly attacked the community, killing residents and abducting several people.

Oseni questioned how the attackers could have known that residents had contacted security operatives, using the incident to highlight what he described as deeper problems surrounding Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
