Addressing attendees at the burial ceremony for the fallen soldiers in Abuja, Gen. Musa pledged to hold the culprits of this heinous crime accountable for their actions.
He asserted, “To the perpetrators of violence who seek to sow division and fear among our people, know this: our resolve will not waver. We will hunt you down, we will bring you to justice, and we will restore peace and security to every nook and cranny of our dear nation.”
Echoing this sentiment, President Bola Tinubu issued a directive for local elders to identify and surrender those responsible for the attack that claimed the lives of 17 Nigerian Army troops in Okuama, Delta State.
The soldiers, belonging to the 181 Amphibious Battalion stationed in Bomadi LGA, were ambushed and fatally attacked by irate youths amidst a land dispute, prompting concerns of potential military retaliation.
During the solemn ceremony in Abuja, President Tinubu posthumously honored the fallen soldiers with national awards, recognizing their dedicated service and ultimate sacrifice.
He emphasized the imperative of accountability, urging community leaders in Ughelli South LGA to collaborate with authorities to resolve the conflict and ensure justice for the deceased personnel.
Responding to speculations about retaliatory actions, the Defence Headquarters reiterated its commitment to pursuing legal and constructive channels in addressing the matter, dismissing any notions of unwarranted aggression.
They underscored that propaganda tactics would not deter the pursuit of justice, underscoring a steadfast stance against violence and lawlessness.
