Faye, a member of the banned African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics, and Fraternity, emerged as the winner of the presidential race, representing the populist wing of the opposition coalition. His victory is considered a significant achievement, especially in the context of Senegalese legislation, which requires a candidate to secure at least 50% of the vote in the initial round to be declared president.

The President-Elect’s use of the broom symbol in celebration draws parallels to the political culture in Nigeria and signifies a connection or solidarity with similar political movements elsewhere in Africa.

Amadou Ba, a former finance minister and immediate past prime minister in Sall’s cabinet, who contested as the ruling party coalition’s candidate, acknowledged his loss to Faye and extended his congratulations.
