Combatting Misinformation: CDS Raises Alarm Over Civilian Collusion In Military Efforts Against Terrorism

In the ongoing battle against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Represented by Brigadier-General Michael Agi, the Chief of Staff at Operation Safe Haven (OpSH), Gen. Musa emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to counter misinformation and address its harmful consequences. He called for mutual understanding between soldiers and the communities they serve, stressing the importance of accurate information in fostering trust and cooperation.

Gen. Musa assured Nigerians of the armed forces’ neutrality in tackling security challenges, emphasizing the soldiers’ role as protectors of the people. He urged civilians to support the military by providing timely and accurate information, crucial for effective counter-terrorism operations.

The convention also saw the participation of other key stakeholders, including government officials and representatives from civil society organizations. The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, underscored the importance of collaboration between his administration and journalists to promote peaceful coexistence and address security concerns.

Professor Sampson Terwase from the National Defence College emphasized the need for increased advocacy and public awareness to bridge the gap between citizens and the military. He highlighted the Middle Belt region’s vulnerability to insecurity and stressed the urgent need for coordinated efforts to restore stability and ensure food security.
