They allege that their power supply has been erratic since a rainstorm disrupted service from the Birgi feeder two months ago. Currently, they are connected to the Lapai feeder, which has been unreliable.

The residents claim AEDC appears indifferent and unprepared to reconnect them to their original feeder. Mallam Abdul Idris, Chairman of Imani City community, highlighted that the problem began when poles supplying power from their transformer were downed by a storm. Despite AEDC’s promises, they remain connected to the unreliable Lapai feeder, causing significant distress.

Tensions Escalate Between Ezinano And Umuzuocha Communities Over Land Dispute

Idris criticized AEDC for using some of their poles to complete work for a prominent local businessman, Alhaji Sani Basket, delaying their reconnection. Frustrated, the communities halted the reconstruction work on Wednesday, fearing further neglect.

The residents have communicated their concerns to state authorities, police, and military institutions to preempt any potential unrest. They urge AEDC to prioritize their reconnection, even if it means retrieving poles from Alhaji Sani Basket’s possession.

In response, AEDC lodged a complaint with the Niger State Police Command, alleging community interference despite its efforts to resolve the issue. AEDC’s Regional Manager, Engr. Samuel Odekina, stated that a temporary agreement with Sani Basket and community representatives was in place until the arrival of new poles. However, community resistance hindered their progress, prompting involvement of law enforcement.

Attempts to reach Sani Basket’s representatives for comment were unsuccessful, as security guards at his factory declined to speak on the matter.
