Nigerians React As Mohbad’s Father Questioned By Police Following Petition From Lagos-Monarch (Details)
Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, faced questioning on Monday by officers of the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Lagos. The interrogation was prompted by a petition from Oba Saheed Elegushi, alleging cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation.
The Aloba legal team, led by Monisola Odumosu, revealed in a statement that the petition stemmed from comments made by Aloba during a recent interview. Odumosu clarified that Aloba did not intend to defame the monarch but was seeking justice for his deceased son.
The statement read, “Mr. Aloba was invited by the police and led to the station by his legal representatives. The petition from Oba Elegushi claimed Mr. Aloba made defamatory remarks during an interview with a London-based blogger, suggesting the monarch had a role in his son’s death.”
Aloba reportedly stated that he had no evidence to support the allegations against Oba Elegushi, aside from his late son’s petition and phone conversations. Odumosu emphasized that Aloba was not arrested or detained and that the monarch only sought a retraction of the statements made on social media.
Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music, died under controversial circumstances at 27 on September 12, 2023. His death led to arrests and investigations, including an autopsy that failed to determine the cause of death due to body decomposition.
