Sowore Speaks Out Following Kuje Prison Remand Order

The order was issued on Monday by Justice Mohammed Umar following the revocation of Sowore’s bail in a case involving allegations raised by the Department of State Services (DSS), relating to public comments in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as a criminal.

The ruling came after the court dismissed an application seeking the judge’s withdrawal from the case, further deepening the legal battle surrounding the activist.

Reacting to the development, Sowore maintained that he remained unshaken, insisting that his detention would not deter his campaign for political and social change. He stated that he was prepared for imprisonment and would continue mobilising Nigerians even while in custody.

According to him, his absence from a previous court sitting, which contributed to the revocation of his bail, was due to consultations with his legal team. He noted that his lead counsel, Olumide-Fusika (SAN), had informed the court of his engagement in legal discussions at the time.

Sowore argued that despite the explanation provided, the court proceeded with the remand order based on his non-appearance. He, however, maintained that his incarceration would not affect his determination, stressing that imprisonment has never succeeded in defeating a just cause.

The activist was subsequently taken into custody and is expected to remain at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings scheduled for Wednesday.
