Breaking News: Kaduna Assembly’s Ad Hoc-Committee Unveils Damning-Report On El-Rufai’s Administration (Details)
In a significant development, the ad hoc committee established by the Kaduna State House of Assembly to scrutinize funds, loans, and contracts awarded during Nasir El-Rufai’s tenure as governor has presented its findings to the House.
During Wednesday’s plenary session, Henry Zacharia, the chairman of the committee, delivered a report detailing alarming discoveries. The report revealed that a substantial portion of the loans secured under El-Rufai’s administration were misappropriated, with many projects failing to meet their intended objectives. Moreover, it highlighted instances where due process was flouted in contract awards.
Yusuf Liman, the Speaker of the Kaduna House of Assembly, received the report and disclosed that El-Rufai’s government had amassed a staggering total of N423 billion in loans, leaving the state burdened with extensive liabilities.
In response to the findings, the committee recommended a thorough investigation and prosecution of El-Rufai and other implicated officials by security and anti-corruption agencies. The alleged offenses include abuse of office, contract irregularities, diversion of public funds, money laundering, and the exacerbation of Kaduna State’s debt crisis.
Furthermore, the committee proposed the suspension of the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, who served during El-Rufai’s tenure, along with the head of the state universal basic education board.
Additionally, it called for a comprehensive inquiry into key appointments made by the previous administration, urging competent law enforcement and anti-corruption authorities to conduct thorough investigations.
The committee, tasked with examining loans, grants, and project implementations from 2015 to 2023, has shed light on potentially grave misconduct during El-Rufai’s governance of the state.
