Federal Government Partners With Shelter Afrique To Develop 5,000 Housing Units Nationwide

The Federal Government has entered into a partnership with Shelter Afrique, a pan-African housing development finance institution, to construct 5,000 housing units across Nigeria. This initiative, led by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, is part of a broader effort to address the country’s significant housing deficit.

Dangiwa emphasized that this partnership marks the first time the Ministry is collaborating directly with a multilateral institution like Shelter Afrique. Nigeria, being the second-largest shareholder in the institution, holds a significant stake of over $29 million.

The housing units, part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, are expected to provide jobs for over 165,000 skilled and unskilled Nigerians. Dangiwa announced plans for further projects in cities such as Lagos, Kano, and Enugu under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme. The minister also called for increased budgetary allocations to ensure the sustainability of these projects.
