I Can Never Carry Plate For My Man” – Lady Sparks Heated Debate Over Marriage Roles

According to IReporter Online, a Nigerian lady has stirred widespread reactions on social media after expressing what she described as “absurd” aspects of her mother’s marriage, stating that she would not replicate such behaviour in her own future relationship.

The video, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) via @AsakyGRN, showed the young woman reflecting on her observations of her parents’ daily marital routine. She noted that despite both parents working, her mother is often responsible for most of the domestic tasks at home.

In her words, she said she found it difficult to understand some of her mother’s actions, particularly how she consistently manages household duties and shows what she described as deep levels of service to her husband.

“Things my mother does in her marriage that I find really absurd and I’ll never do,” she stated in the viral clip.

She further explained that her mother does not reprimand her father even when he is at fault and also tends to attend to him in what she considers an excessive manner. She specifically mentioned that after her father finishes eating, her mother often carries his plate, a responsibility she said she would never take on except she feels like it.

“Number two, anytime my dad finishes eating, my mum carries his plate. The most I can do for my man is serve him food, and that’s only if I’m in a good mood. I can never carry a plate for my man,” she added.

The lady also highlighted that her mother continues to cook daily despite being employed, while her father usually rests after work, describing the arrangement as one she personally finds difficult to accept.

Her remarks have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some users criticising her stance as a rejection of traditional marital values, while others argued that modern relationships should be built on balance, equality, and shared responsibility.
