Jaafar Jaafar Claims Bichi’s Leadership Ruined DSS Professionalism

Investigative journalist Jaafar Jaafar has criticized Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing him of undermining the agency’s professionalism and fostering nepotism. Jaafar alleged that Bichi’s tenure saw a decline in recruitment standards, with many new recruits lacking the necessary qualifications.

Jaafar also claimed that Bichi’s wife exerted undue influence over the agency’s operations, impacting recruitment, promotions, and discipline. He described Bichi’s administration as one that turned the DSS into a “graveyard of career aspirations” and criticized the former DG for allegedly allowing his family members to misuse public resources.

Following Bichi’s departure, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director-General. Jaafar urged the new DG to conduct a thorough review of detainee cases, maintain professionalism, and ensure that personal interests do not interfere with the agency’s duties.
