Okechukwu To Tinubu: Step On Oil Mafia’s Toes To Save 133 Million Nigerians!

Osita Okechukwu, former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on President Bola Tinubu to implement the “class suicide” approach within the oil sector to enhance its performance.

Okechukwu emphasized that the President needs to take decisive action to align all stakeholders in the oil industry, ensuring they work towards achieving Tinubu’s governance goals.

He made this appeal on Sunday in response to comments made by the spokesperson of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Olufemi Soneye, who revealed during an interactive session with National Assembly correspondents in Abuja that Nigeria could potentially produce up to 3 million barrels of crude oil per day if stakeholders cooperate effectively.

Soneye stressed that achieving this production target would require collaboration among security agencies, oil companies, and host communities to combat oil theft and pipeline vandalism, creating an environment conducive to reaching the 2.5 to 3 million barrels per day goal.

Reacting to this, Okechukwu urged President Tinubu to take the NNPCL’s statement as a wake-up call. He highlighted that generating income from 3 million barrels of crude oil daily could address Nigeria’s multidimensional poverty, which affects 133 million people.

“As a founding member of the APC, I recall the promises of change we made to Nigerians. I strongly appeal to the President to adopt Amilcar Cabral’s timeless principle of ‘class suicide’ and bring all stakeholders into alignment to achieve this goal,” Okechukwu said.

He further stated that achieving this oil production target would not only help lift millions out of poverty but also restore hope in democracy and fulfill the promise of the “Renewed Hope” agenda.

Okechukwu continued by urging the government to strengthen security around oil fields, suggesting that if the armed forces are unable to secure them effectively, modern technology and expertise should be deployed. He concluded by reiterating the need for “class suicide,” even if it means challenging the so-called “oil mafia” in the sector.
