Despite assurances from the executive that the reforms aim to streamline tax administration and boost private investment, Northern lawmakers and leaders have expressed growing concerns over the potential socio-economic impact on their region.

The Deputy Senate President faced backlash for presiding over a Senate session where the bills passed a contentious second reading. Youth groups allege that his actions favor political gains over regional welfare, labeling the reform as “evil” and harmful to Northern livelihoods.

In an open letter, the Northern Youth Assembly condemned Senator Jibrin’s role in advancing the bills, warning that the legislation could exacerbate poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits in the North, while undermining local economic stability.
