the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Ichita believes that Kanu’s release is crucial to restoring peace in the South East region.

During his recent visit to Kanu at the DSS headquarters, Ichita discussed issues around the restoration of peace and security in the South East. He argued that Kanu’s continued detention is fueling insecurity in the region and that his release would help prove Tinubu as a unifier.

Ichita also advocated for dialogue and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to resolve contentious issues in the country. He noted that even Rwanda, which had experienced bloody battles, was able to make peace through negotiations.

Ichita regretted that his earlier counsel on how to handle the Kanu issue was ignored by former President Muhammadu Buhari and urged Tinubu to adopt a different approach. He criticized South East leaders for being nonchalant about the security situation in their region and failing to pressure the President for Kanu’s release.

The German Country Director believes that Kanu’s release would contribute to the cessation of hostilities in the South East and make it easier for security operatives to distinguish between peaceful protesters and violent attackers.
