scams and using the proceeds to fund extravagant lifestyles, including luxury cars and mansions.

The arrest followed an investigation launched by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Lagos Police Zone 2, which received credible information about a group involved in forging foreign academic credentials. Acting swiftly, detectives tracked the suspects to a five-star hotel in Lekki, where they were apprehended.

The police recovered several forged documents, including certificates from Blue Crest College, Ghana, and student IDs from Academic City College. The suspects admitted to acquiring the fraudulent certificates with the help of a Nigerian woman in Ghana, paying over 26,000 Ghana cedis in total. Their ultimate goal was to secure a Ghanaian residence permit under the guise of being students.

Upon further interrogation, the suspects revealed their involvement in online fraud schemes, impersonating a US Army officer to scam victims from countries such as Japan, China, and Denmark. The duo also admitted to facilitating financial transactions through blockchain wallets and foreign bank accounts.

In a surprising twist, the suspects attempted to bribe the police, offering a sum of N66 million in exchange for their release. Police authorities have since reported the incident to the Ghanaian embassy and are working with Interpol to apprehend the suspects’ international accomplices.

The suspects, who had only completed secondary school, expressed regret over their criminal activities, attributing their actions to poverty. They urged Nigerian youth to pursue legitimate paths to success rather than resorting to fraud.
