During their meeting, they identified key areas for cooperation to promote economic growth in Nigeria.

NiDCOM Chair praised the CBN Governor for the introduction of the Non-Resident Nigerian Ordinary Account (NRNOA) and the Non-Resident Nigerian Investment Account (NRNIA), which facilitate investments by Nigerians living abroad.

The NRNOA enables diasporic Nigerians to transfer earnings such as salaries, dividends, and rental income into accounts held in convertible foreign currencies.

In addition, the NRNIA offers non-resident Nigerians a range of investment options, including local and foreign currency assets like government bonds, equities, and fixed deposits.

In a statement released by the Commission’s spokesman, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa emphasized this initiative’s significance for enhancing diaspora engagement and bolstering Nigeria’s economy.

Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the crucial impact of remittances from Nigerians abroad, noting that they have become the most significant source of foreign exchange for Nigeria, outpacing revenue from oil.

She also stressed the necessity for collective efforts from both Nigerians at home and abroad, declaring, “We must collaborate to develop Nigeria, as no foreign entity will do it for us.”

Dabiri-Erewa encouraged diaspora Nigerians to take advantage of these new financial initiatives.
