Unleashed Potential: Adesanya Predicts Ngannou’s Epic Clash With Wilder

Two-time UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is keeping his focus on his upcoming fight against Nassourdine Imavov while expressing confidence in Francis Ngannou’s potential success against Deontay Wilder in a possible boxing match.
Speculations have been circulating since November about a heavyweight boxing bout between Ngannou—who became the PFL heavyweight champion in October—and Wilder, who is set to return to the ring in April to face Curtis Harper. However, concrete details have yet to emerge.

In an interview with Stake, Adesanya shared his belief in Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion, emphasizing his skills and quick rise in the boxing arena.

“Francis Ngannou and Deontay Wilder definitely have the makings of an exciting bout. In today’s fast-paced TikTok era, it’s easy to underestimate Wilder’s capabilities. He boasts one of the highest finishing rates in heavyweight boxing history, and Ngannou has rapidly made a name for himself in boxing after just two fights,” Adesanya stated.

As Adesanya prepares for his much-anticipated return to the octagon against Imavov in Saudi Arabia next month, he also reflects on Wilder’s recent personal and mental challenges.

“I truly believe Francis has the potential to win this fight, but much will depend on Deontay’s mental preparedness. He recently mentioned exploring personal growth methods like Ayahuasca, which leaves his mental state uncertain,” he added.

At 35, Adesanya is looking to bounce back from recent defeats, including a submission loss to Dricus du Plessis in August 2024. His upcoming fight with Imavov will be his first non-title match since defeating Anderson Silva in February 2019, serving as an essential opportunity to reestablish his path toward title contention.

Set to headline the UFC’s inaugural event in Saudi Arabia in February 2025, this match could allow Adesanya to add to his impressive record of 24 victories, with 16 by knockout.

Regarding the middleweight title fight between Du Plessis and Sean Strickland, Adesanya predicts that the champion will perform strongly. “I think Dricus has the advantage. He’s a fantastic fighter with a solid approach. He already faced Strickland previously, and although it was a tight match, he definitely won. This time, I expect a clearer outcome,” he noted.
