VeryDarkMan Releases ‘First Evidence’ After Police Demand Proof

According to Ireporter Online, VeryDarkMan shared a video on his Instagram page on Thursday with the caption, “My evidence number 1.”

The development came only hours after the Nigeria Police Force challenged the activist to provide proof of his claim that some officers allegedly pass information about travellers to kidnappers and bandits.

The controversy began on Tuesday when VeryDarkMan appeared as a panelist at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during a session focused on insecurity.

While speaking at the event, the social media critic questioned the effectiveness of police checkpoints along major highways, including the Lagos-Abuja route and the Lokoja axis.

He alleged that some officers stationed at checkpoints could identify travellers who appeared financially capable and allegedly relay information about them to criminal groups.

VeryDarkMan illustrated his allegation by suggesting that an officer could identify a traveller in a particular vehicle and subsequently alert kidnappers that a potential ransom payer was travelling along the route.

He further claimed that security agencies were aware of the identities and locations of some individuals allegedly involved in kidnappings and other violent crimes but had failed to apprehend them.

The activist also made the controversial statement that there were no “unknown gunmen,” suggesting that personnel from various security agencies were responsible for some of the incidents attributed to unidentified attackers.

The Nigeria Police Force subsequently rejected the allegations, describing them as unsubstantiated and damaging to the institution.

The Force challenged VeryDarkMan to provide whatever evidence he had so that the claims could be properly investigated.

In an earlier response, however, VeryDarkMan said he would present his evidence if he was charged before a court.

He maintained his position that some police officers were allegedly involved in facilitating kidnapping activities and described them as part of the “unknown gunmen” he referred to during the NBA conference.

Against this backdrop, the activist has now released a video which he labelled “My evidence number 1.”

The footage shows police officers being paraded. However, VeryDarkMan did not provide a detailed explanation in the post establishing how the video specifically proves his allegation that police officers pass information about travellers to kidnappers.

The video therefore represents the material the activist has presented as evidence, while the substance of his wider allegations remains subject to verification through investigation or judicial proceedings.

The development has generated significant reactions online, with the dispute between VeryDarkMan and the Police Force continuing to attract public attention.

The controversy has also drawn further attention to the activist’s appearance at the NBA conference, where he spoke about insecurity and cited experiences from communities affected by attacks and killings.

He had also referenced the reported abduction of a judge as an indication that insecurity had increasingly affected members of the legal profession.

The Presidency has subsequently criticised the Nigerian Bar Association for providing VeryDarkMan with a platform to make what it described as reckless allegations against the Police Force.
