Flood Alert: NiMet Issues Warning As Heavy Rainfall Predicted For May And June Check Full Details 

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted intense rainfall with the possibility of flash floods between May and June 2025, especially in the country’s coastal cities.

Keyamo also indicated that rainfall onset is expected to be delayed in northern and central regions such as Plateau, Kaduna, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kwara states.

On the other hand, southern states including Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Anambra, and parts of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Enugu, Imo, and Ebonyi will experience an early onset of the rainy season. Other regions of the country will witness the typical timing for the season’s start.

In addition, the end of the rainy season is predicted to be earlier than usual in parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, FCT, Ekiti, and Ondo states, while a delayed end is expected in areas such as Kaduna, Nasarawa, Benue, Lagos, Kwara, Taraba, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Enugu.

Keyamo further advised that higher-than-usual temperatures are expected across Nigeria, particularly in January, February, March, and May. However, April may see cooler than average temperatures, especially during the day and at night over most parts of the country. Northern states may experience warmer-than-usual conditions.

Concluding his address, Keyamo urged those involved in rainfed agriculture or other rainfall-dependent activities to consult the Seasonal Climate Change document or reach out to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency for further guidance on the predicted onset and details.
