Despite the ongoing economic struggles facing many Nigerians, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), George Agbakahi, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s leadership has brought greater happiness and meaningful progress compared to the years under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking during a live appearance on a popular news program, Agbakahi asserted that the current administration has delivered far-reaching initiatives that directly impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians. According to iReporter Online, he cited key reforms introduced under Tinubu’s government, including the historic rollout of a student loan scheme that had never existed during PDP’s time in power.

Agbakahi emphasized that technical and vocational education has become more accessible than ever, noting that individuals now receive free training in various trades such as carpentry and welding — a development he believes was unimaginable during previous administrations.

“Let’s be honest. Did you ever hear about student loans during the PDP years?” he asked rhetorically, while praising President Tinubu for making such opportunities available. “For the first time, vocational institutions are training people without charging a dime. These are the things that make a difference.”

He further highlighted the introduction of compressed natural gas (CNG) transportation and the emergence of electric vehicles as game-changing innovations championed by Tinubu’s administration. According to iReporter Online, he maintained that such advancements demonstrate a deliberate commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s economy and infrastructure — a contrast, he argued, to the “artificial economy” sustained under previous presidents.

When reminded of rising poverty and hardship, Agbakahi defended the President’s economic overhaul, attributing the temporary pain to necessary policy corrections such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification — long avoided by past leaders. He pointed out that former Presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan, and even Buhari acknowledged the need for these changes but failed to execute them due to political caution.

“President Tinubu took the hard decision and followed through. He admitted it would be tough, but it’s already easing,” Agbakahi stated, reinforcing his belief that the current reforms are bearing fruit.

Agbakahi concluded that comparing the PDP era with the current administration is impossible. “It’s not even doable,” he insisted. “This is a new Nigeria — one that’s working for the people.”
