Labour Party Charts New Course with NEC Meeting in Abuja
The Labour Party, under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, convened a decisive National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Friday, marking a pivotal step toward internal restructuring and long-term political strategy. According to iReporter Online, the gathering drew prominent figures within the party, including Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, his deputy Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, and several other key stakeholders, reinforcing the meeting’s strategic importance.
At the heart of the deliberations was the imminent inauguration of an interim National Working Committee (NWC), which will steer party activities until the next official National Convention is held. This move, according to iReporter Online, is designed to stabilize the party’s leadership and sharpen its organizational focus ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Critical to the meeting was the establishment of strategic committees tasked with revamping the party’s foundation. Among these are the membership revalidation committee, charged with authenticating and expanding the party’s grassroots base nationwide, and the congresses committee, mandated to coordinate upcoming party congresses across all levels. Party insiders see these steps as central to reinforcing LP’s grassroots reach and enhancing internal democratic processes.
Also in attendance was Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), whose presence lent substantial institutional legitimacy to the event. The Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Chief Sylvester Ejiofor, was also represented, signaling the inclusive nature of the decision-making process. According to iReporter Online, these developments underscore a clear commitment to unity, reform, and national relevance.
As Nigeria’s political terrain continues to evolve, the NEC meeting in Abuja is being interpreted as a bold statement of intent by the Labour Party. The party’s reorganization efforts, now in full motion, signal not just a structural overhaul but a reawakening of its ambition to become a dominant force in the 2027 elections and beyond.
