President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to join in the eighth-day prayer ceremony held in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona. According to iReporter Online, the event is a continuation of national tributes to the revered monarch who passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.

Tinubu’s attendance at the ceremony was confirmed in a social media update on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun. The post, shared on X (formerly Twitter), noted that the President was heading to Ijebu-Ode specifically for the solemn observance, which marks a significant moment in traditional and national remembrance.

According to iReporter Online, Oba Adetona was laid to rest a day after his passing in accordance with Islamic customs. His 65-year reign is widely recognized as one of the longest and most influential among Nigerian traditional rulers. In honour of his legacy, prayers and tributes have poured in from across the country, culminating in this high-level memorial event.

The ceremony is being held at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, a venue that has seen increased security presence in recent days. Roads leading to strategic locations such as the Awujale’s Palace and his Igbeba residence have also been under tight surveillance to accommodate dignitaries and ensure a smooth event.

Top political and traditional leaders, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, are expected at the prayer session. According to iReporter Online, the gathering underscores the nationwide reverence for the late monarch, who was not only a cultural icon but a bridge between tradition and national leadership.

The eighth-day prayer serves as a symbolic closure to an era of principled leadership in Ijebuland, with President Tinubu’s presence reflecting the federal government’s recognition of Oba Adetona’s contributions to national unity, peace, and cultural continuity.
