Women Receive Healthcare And Cash Support In Community Outreach
According to Ireporter Online, the Gbonse Foundation for Economic Development has conducted a free medical outreach and health sensitisation programme aimed at improving the welfare of underserved women, with the initiative holding at Ikotun Market where numerous traders benefited from basic healthcare services and wellness education.
The Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Helen Olaniyan, stated that the intervention is designed to support vulnerable communities, particularly women in small-scale businesses and young girls seeking educational advancement or vocational skills, with the broader goal of reducing poverty and inequality.
She disclosed that the foundation provides collateral-free loans to help women expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods, adding that over 100 women have so far benefited from the scheme, with loan disbursements starting from N40,000.
Olaniyan explained that the programme, which commenced about six months ago, has already recorded positive outcomes, with beneficiaries reportedly experiencing business growth and improved living conditions. She further noted that beyond financial empowerment, the foundation also delivers basic healthcare services including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, weight monitoring, health education, and the distribution of simple medications for everyday use.
She added that participation is limited to registered members, with the organisation also extending support to beneficiaries through legal advice and educational assistance for their children. According to her, the foundation follows up closely on loan usage through credit officers who engage beneficiaries regularly to ensure proper utilisation of funds while offering guidance where challenges arise.
Medical personnel at the outreach conducted routine screenings, provided health education, and referred cases requiring further medical attention, reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to both health and economic empowerment.
