Nigeria’s Economy on the Rise: Q1 2025 GDP Hits 3.13% Growth, Beats Expectations!
Nigeria’s economy recorded a significant year-on-year growth of 3.13 percent in real terms for the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a boost in economic activity compared to the same period last year. The development was confirmed in a fresh report issued by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), highlighting improved performance particularly in the services and industry sectors.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, this new growth figure surpasses the 2.27 percent growth posted in Q1 of 2024, indicating a positive shift in the nation’s economic trajectory despite persistent global and domestic challenges. The NBS stated that the upward movement underscores the resilience of the Nigerian economy and the impact of government strategies aimed at stabilising key sectors.
The data shows that both the service and industrial components contributed significantly to the growth pattern, reinforcing ongoing efforts to diversify economic drivers beyond the oil sector. ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the improvement may also be linked to intensified government capital spending and fiscal reforms targeting infrastructure and industrial revitalisation.
The bureau’s report is seen as a major indicator of Nigeria’s economic recovery path, with analysts suggesting it could bolster investor confidence and stimulate further domestic and foreign investments. ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, this momentum, if sustained, may create room for job creation, reduction in poverty rates, and wider economic inclusion.
The first quarter performance positions Nigeria favorably within the West African economic bloc, even as stakeholders call for continued macroeconomic discipline and structural reforms to consolidate the gains and shield the economy from future shocks.
