‘We Said No To Adeleke!’ – APC Chieftain Reveals Governor’s Failed Attempt To Defect
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Jamiu Olawumi, has revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke made covert attempts to defect to the APC but was firmly rejected by the party leadership.
According to IReporter Online, Olawumi made this revelation while speaking during an interview on The Morning Brief programme aired on Channels Television.
He alleged that Governor Adeleke, who was elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022, lobbied influential figures within the APC to facilitate his crossover, but internal investigations and feedback from civil servants influenced the decision to reject him.
According to IReporter Online, many workers, particularly those feeling marginalized in comparison to their counterparts from Adeleke’s hometown, Ede, appealed to the APC leadership not to welcome him into the party.
“The communiqué recently released by the PDP in Osun State — about 72 hours ago — actually validates our position that Governor Adeleke was actively seeking to switch to the APC,” Olawumi disclosed.
He further emphasized that even if the governor had succeeded in defecting, he could never have assumed leadership of the party in Osun, as that position is firmly held by Chief Bisi Akande.
Olawumi also countered a statement by Governor Adeleke’s media aide, Hezekiah Bamiji, who claimed that two senators — Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi — were tricked into defecting to the APC.
According to IReporter Online, Olawumi clarified that the lawmakers left the PDP of their own volition because they no longer wanted to associate with what they viewed as a political mess.
