Anambra Gets New Financial Watchdog As Soludo Fires Up Economic Reform Agenda
Governor Charles Soludo has appointed Joachim Achor as the new Accountant-General of Anambra State following what has been described as a transparent and merit-driven selection process.
The announcement, made in Awka by the Governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, stated that Mr. Achor stood out among numerous candidates who underwent computer-based testing, a rigorous screening process, and a final interview with the governor himself. ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the selection was devoid of political influence, tribal bias, or patronage — a sharp departure from previous practices in the state’s civil service appointments.
Mr. Achor, originally from Abia State, first came to Anambra as a student and later completed his National Youth Service Corps there. His exceptional performance earned him the state’s merit award, after which the military government at the time granted him automatic employment.
He has since risen through the ranks, serving as a director and later as a permanent secretary before this landmark appointment.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the appointment of a non-indigene to such a critical post signals a new era of inclusion, equity, and professionalism in Anambra State’s governance.
The government emphasized its commitment to building a merit-based, cosmopolitan civil service, one that rewards excellence and encourages national integration.
Governor Soludo congratulated Mr. Achor and charged him to serve with integrity, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the people of Anambra.
