KWAM 1 In Hot Air! Aviation Authorities Plan Total Flight Ban on Fuji Legend
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced its decision to ban Fuji legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) from flying within Nigeria for six months, following what it described as unruly behavior at the airport, according to iReporter Online.
During a press briefing held on Thursday in Abuja, Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, revealed that the disciplinary action stemmed from an incident at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where KWAM 1 allegedly spilled alcohol on an airline staff member during boarding on Tuesday.
According to iReporter Online, the regulatory authority emphasized that no one, regardless of status, is exempt from aviation safety rules.
“This action is being taken to uphold standards and ensure the protection of airport staff against any form of harassment or misconduct,” Achimugu stated.
The incident, which triggered backlash across social media, was confirmed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). FAAN reported that KWAM 1 was seen holding a bottle containing an alcoholic beverage, and during the boarding process, its contents were allegedly spilled on a cabin crew member.
FAAN denounced the act as a violation of aviation safety protocols, stressing that such behavior is incompatible with the integrity of airport operations, according to iReporter Online.
In response, KWAM 1 denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the bottle in question contained water, not alcohol.
His team also claimed that airport authorities, including FAAN and NCAA, along with top airline executives, had personally reached out with apologies—suggesting that if any misconduct had occurred, such conciliatory gestures would not have followed.
