Bridges, Roads, and a Mega Hospital — Minister Momoh Tours NDDC’s Transformational Projects in Rivers(Video)
RIVERS STATE — The Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to rewriting the development story of the Niger Delta, as he led an extensive inspection tour of key Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) projects in Rivers State.
Joined by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mary A. Ogbe, the Managing Director/CEO of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Executive Directors, and senior officials, the Minister visited three game-changing projects designed to reconnect communities, boost economic activity, and enhance the quality of life across the region.
First Stop — Kaa-Ataba Road and Bridge
Once abandoned and left to the mercy of time, the Kaa-Ataba Road and Bridge is now roaring back to life. Linking Khana and Andoni Local Government Areas, this vital corridor will drastically cut travel time, open up trade for fishermen and farmers, and end decades of isolation for thousands of residents. The Minister hailed the project as “a bridge to opportunity, unity, and sustainable economic growth.”
Second Stop — Okrika-Borikiri Bridge
The inspection continued at the Okrika-Borikiri Bridge, another long-neglected project revived under renewed government drive. Stretching across the waterways, this bridge promises to revolutionize movement between Okrika and Borikiri, energizing commerce, boosting inter-community ties, and creating new pathways for investment. Engr. Momoh stressed that the oversight aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to fast-track meaningful development in the Niger Delta.
Final Stop — Niger Delta Regional Hospital
The tour concluded with the inspection of the Niger Delta Regional Hospital and Ancillary Buildings in Port Harcourt — a state-of-the-art medical facility that will set a new standard for healthcare delivery in the region. Equipped with modern diagnostic centers, surgical theatres, emergency response units, and specialized wards, the hospital will eliminate the need for long-distance travel for quality care and serve as a major employer for medical professionals.
Speaking at the end of the tour, Engr. Momoh praised the NDDC for its commitment to delivering impactful projects, noting that infrastructure, connectivity, and healthcare are not luxuries but essentials for unlocking the full potential of the Niger Delta.
“These are not just projects,” he said. “They are lifelines — tangible proof that the Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering on its promises.”
With the revival of abandoned works and the push for world-class facilities, the Niger Delta is witnessing a transformation that will be felt for generations.
