Nigerian musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has issued an apology following an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, 2025. In a statement addressing the matter, Kwam 1 clarified that he did not carry alcohol in his flask, as was speculated, but only water. He explained that he suffers from chronic dehydration and, on medical advice, always keeps himself hydrated.

According to Ireporter Online, Kwam 1 emphasized that he passed through two security checks with the flask empty, only filling it with water at the airport lounge before proceeding to the tarmac. The artist mentioned that this can be confirmed by CCTV footage from the lounge. He further stated that he had not boarded or been deboarded from the plane when the incident occurred.

While expressing regret for the disruption caused, Kwam 1 maintained his commitment to abiding by aviation protocols and expressed deep patriotism for Nigeria. According to Ireporter Online, he reaffirmed his dedication to promoting Nigerian culture globally and safeguarding the image he has built over five decades.

He extended an unreserved apology to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet Airlines, Nigerians, and his fans worldwide for the concerns raised by the incident. According to Ireporter Online, Kwam 1 reiterated his resolve to uphold the responsibilities of being a global ambassador of Nigerian music and culture.
